Job Description

Position Summary:

Senior Manufacturing Design Engineer in the Residential & Renovation manufacturing engineering team focused on manufacturing machinery & associated equipment/process development, in support of process improvements, product improvements, capacity additions, new product implementations and automation 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Design’s manufacturing processes, machinery, equipment, tooling, and the procedures and production layouts for assemblies. 
  • Leads the equipment construction, integration, installation, process startups, including directing component manufacturing, component selection and associated material handling. 
  • Analyze information, conduct root cause analysis & generate alternatives, and commit to solutions that ensure the efficient use of resources.  
  • Implements improvements by prioritizing and assigning tasks, resources and accountabilities to ensure objectives are met within the required time and budget. 
  • Designs arrangement of machines within plant facilities to ensure most efficient and productive layout and material flow. 
  • Ensure that the facility/equipment operates within all applicable legal, safety, and environmental requirements.  
  • Perform various administrative responsibilities such as timely reporting, meetings, project management, developing safe work methods, interfacing with OSHA, EPA, emergency response teams, risk management and loss protection. 
  • Collaborates with R&D Engineering regarding product design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize or develop equipment and manufacturing techniques. 
  • Identify, lead and develop talent in order to maximize individual, team and organizational effectiveness in meeting company goals. 
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering required
  • 5-10 years of experience in high-volume manufacturing environment
  • Demonstrated experience & level of responsibility in matters of and resolving issues relating to, equipment and tooling design/modification, maintenance, project management and supervision
  • Knowledge and application of engineering and technology skills in problem solving and arriving at solutions and new designs.
  • Demonstrated collaborative skills with internal/external stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks CADD software with AutoCAD also a benefit
  • Position will require travel for periods of time ranging from a week up to several weeks duration. Periodic international travel could be required. Due to significant time zone differences phone and video communications with our international locations will occasionally require hours that are not part of a normal workday.
  • Experience with Value Stream Mapping, Six Sigma Tools, Lean Manufacturing, Automation, and Capital Projects a plus

Continuous Improvement: The ability to evaluate current designs, and recommend appropriate changes is expected.  Determine root causes to problems, produce a selection of possible solutions, and recommend appropriate action, implement the improvement, and monitor results of the improvement.

Technical/Professional knowledge: The ability to demonstrate technical knowledge and expertise in the areas of mechanical designs, materials and construction of machines and tooling.

Project Management: Ability to structure and manage projects in support of more senior engineers

Teamwork: Assists peers on area of expertise. Seeks input and assistance from others. Open to feedback.

Personal Effectiveness: Sets priorities, determines resource

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
